SAY NO TO OVERDEVELOPMENT IN MITCHAM!

Mitcham Gasworks: The proposal

St William Homes wants to build 595 HIGH-RISE FLATS at Mitcham Gasworks (opposite Asda). Merton Council originally deemed this site appropriate for 200-400 units in its Draft Local Plan!!

  • 10 DENSE CONCRETE TOWER BLOCKS between 5 and 9 storeys

  • 595 flats; NO HOUSES/PRIVATE GARDENS

  • Only 135 parking spaces; 77% of units WILL NOT have access to parking

  • HIGH-RISE FLATS will dwarf surrounding low-rise family homes

  • SUB-STANDARD DESIGN; 200+ flats are SINGLE ASPECT (windows on one side), which results in a lack of daylight, poor ventilation and overheating

  • LACK OF GREEN SPACE: Falls short of minimum London Plan requirements for Urban Greening Factor

  • ALARMING CONTAMINATION ISSUES - the developer's report states that "potential volatile contamination may be present and has not been fully investigated to date"
